Iwasesenzuka Kofun-gun

In the 6th century, an ancient burial mound shaped like a large keyhole was built in the massif of Iwahashi on the west side of Yata mountain pass. The Tenouzuka-kofun and the Dainichiyama-35go-kofun with various clay images (haniwas) are located at the top of the hill. The powerful families who had supported these large ancient burial mounds had built several tombs around a round shaped burial mound in the 6th century which formed one of the largest clusters of burial mounds in Japan. Most of them are structured with a horizontal chamber called the Iwahashi-style.
