The ruins of Saya-dera temple

The ruins of Saya-dera temple are the ruins of the late Asuka period. The ruins of the pagoda, the Kondo, the Rokkakudo, the auditorium and the South Gate have been confirmed. The oldest Buddhist narrative collection in Japan during the early Heian period, “Nihonryoiki,” has the notation of “Kuwahara no Saya-dera” (Saya-dera temple in Kuwahara). Kuwahara is the name of a town in Ito-gun, and is the area of Kasada-naka, Kasada-higashi and Otani today. A part of the ruins of the tower and the Kondo are now restored.
