Along the Yamato road, you can find this restored stacked-tile podium of the main hall of a tower called Kawarazumi-kidan which had been laid out in a Hokki-ji style arrangement of temple buildings. This place is a ruin of an ancient temple in the late 7th century that had roof tiles called Kawara-dera and Motoyakushi-ji styled Nokimaru-gawara. It is a Historic Site designated by the Wakayama prefecture. The main pillar of the tower is kept in a small shrine and is called “Goma-ishi san” by the local residents.
