Wakayama City Area, Ancient Roads, Recommended Spots
Follow the Kumano Kodo on the south bank of the Kinokawa, pass by the ruins of Wasa Oji, and then you will come across the Yata mountain pass. At the top of the mountain, there is a path cut right through the mountain. Back when the Nankaido was designed and constructed, the roads on the plain area were directed to made straight throughout Japan. The roads on the hillsides were cut through to make it straight-lined. The Yata mountain pass seems to have followed the same skills back in the old days.
