During the era of Manyo, the Emperors who traveled to Kinokuni by the Nankaido route were impressed by the scenery of Waka-ura and composed its wonderfulness in many Waka poems. There are also poems composed by court poets such as Yamabe no Akahito that praise the Waka-ura and Tamatsu-shima. On this route, you take the bus to the city’s Nishihama district (Nagaji  長路bus stop), then head to Saikazaki. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery on your way to Kimii-dera.
