Iyato hachiman-jinja Shrine

It is an Ubusunagami (guardian deity of one’s birthplace) of the Motowaki and Hino area near the Nankai Nirigahama station. There used to be teahouses lined in front of the Iyato Hachiman Jinja (shrine) in the Edo period to sell Itokirimochi (rice cakes) which were very popular to the people at that time who visited here by taking the former Kada road. The rice cakes are mentioned in the “Kishu Meisho Zue” which is a geographical booklet of historic sites written in the Edo period. They all closed down in the early Showa period.
